NORA BECKER
1931-2009
Nora Becker of Whitehall Road, Albany left her wonderful world on Monday April 6, 2009. A vivacious woman, who was loved by everyone whose life she touched, she leaves behind her husband Martin Becker, her two daughters Gail Becker Shafner and Diane Lynne Hallenbeck and the apple of her eye, her grandson Skyler Robert Hallenbeck, a sister Fanny Vener and several nieces and nephews.
She was born in Essen, Germany in 1931 and came to this country after World War II. A Holocaust survivor, she was a "Hidden Child" in Belgium during the war. She and her husband taught the history and meaning of the Holocaust to young and old alike in order that the world should "never forget". An accountant by profession, she was, for several years President and CEO of Manor Ventures, Inc.
" Noerchen" to her husband, " Mom" to her daughters and " Oma" to her grandson and his friends she will remain in all of our memories forever.
Her funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon at Temple Israel, 600 New Scotland Avenue. Interment followed services in the Temple Israel Cemetery on Western Avenue in Guilderland, NY. .
Remembrances in her memory may be made to Temple Israel, The Community Hospice of Albany County 445 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205 or St. Peter's Hospital Foundation 315 South Manning Blvd. Albany, NY 12208 The family will receive visitors at the Becker residence, 290 Whitehall Road in Albany on Saturday and Sunday evenings after 7:30pm. The family's thanks go out to Drs. Dennis Rassias, Dr. Arthur Sunkin, Dr. Christian Gasson, and Dr. Louis Gold and their associates for the wonderful care bestowed upon Nora.
