Obituary of Edith Kohan

Edith Haber Kohan age 93, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2009 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, New York after a brief illness. She was born in Poughkeepsie, New York on March 6, 1915 to the late David Haber and Ettie Fershlisser who owned and operated Haber's toy store on Main Street in Poughkeepsie for many years. She graduated from Poughkeepsie High School and received her teacher's certificate from New Paltz. She was the loving wife of Hyman J. Kohan of Kingston New York and celebrated 40 years of marriage before he predeceased her on January 14, 1987. In 1990, she moved to Clifton Park and was for the last several years a resident of Coburg Village. She was a member of Agudas Achim in Kingston and Congregation Beth Shalom in Clifton Park. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, painting, mah jong and bridge and the Jumble word puzzles, but especially enjoyed being with her family including her granddog Hillary. Her beloved son Robert J. Kohan of Clifton Park, New York pre-deceased her in 1998. She is survived by her loving and devoted daughter Carol Kohan of Hyde Park, New York, daughter-in-law Colleen (Robert) Silverman of Clifton Park, grandson Joshua Kohan of Pohang, South Korea, granddaughter Victoria Kohan of Seattle, Washington. She is also survived by her sister Shirley Sigalow of Longwood, Florida, nieces, nephews, and friends. She was pre deceased by her brothers Samuel Haber, William Haber, and Jacob Haber, and sisters Anna Fleishfarb, Matilda Gordon, and Goldie Worona. A graveside service was held at Montropose Cemetary in Kingston, New York , Tuesday, February 24 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations can be made to Congregation Beth Shalom, Clifton Park Center Road Clifton Park, New York12065 or Congregation Agudas Achim, Lucas Avenue, Kingston, New York 12401
