MY "WONDERFUL" HUSBAND, OUR "GREAT" DAD, OUR "GREAT" GRANDFATHER, SAILED AWAY. Joseph Danforth Hughes of 789 Western Avenue, Albany, New York, born April 6, 1929, age 79, passed away at St. Peter's Hospice Inn on January 23, 2009.
MY "WONDERFUL" HUSBAND, OUR "GREAT" DAD, OUR "GREAT" GRANDFATHER served in the United State Navy and Naval Reserve from 1949 to 1965, was a dedicated Navy Sailor stationed aboard the USS Snowden DE-246 and the USS Leyte CV-32 receiving the National Defense Service Medal. He was employed as a Sales and Service Manager with Goodyear and Sousa Goodyear before retiring. Joe was also a BPOE Elks member for many years.
His Loving and Surviving Family include his LOVING WIFE of 55 years, Solveig J. Hughes of Bergen, Norway including 2 Brother-in-Laws, Sigurd and Johann Gripsgaard and several relatives in Bergen, Norway. OUR GREAT DAD leaves his enduring and everlasting love to his children and theirs; his son John Hughes, his daughter Margie (Hughes) Oliveira along with Richard Rasmussen, his son Bill Hughes along with his wife Donna Hughes and Grandpa's grandchildren Nicholas, Tiffany, and Christopher Hughes, his son Steve Hughes with his wife Rebecca Hughes and Grandpa's step grandchildren Debbie Workman and Becky Siebert and his daughter JoAnn McMahon and her husband Jack McMahon and Grandpa's grandchildren Sean, Katelyn, and Lindsey McMahon.
Calling hours will be held at Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue, Albany, NY 12206, (518) 438-1002, info@levinememorialchapel.com on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. A Private Family and Close Friends Service will be held Wednesday morning January 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. followed by cremation at the Albany Rural Cemetery's Chapel and Crematorium.
On Street parking is available as well as the Albany High School parking facility directly across the street from the Levine Memorial Chapel; the entrance is located on Washington Avenue closest to the High School with an exit just east of the entrance.
