Obituary of Esther Skolnick Brown
BROWN
ALBANY, NY - Esther Skolnik Brown passed away on January 14, 2009. Born on November 4, 1914 in Gilbert, Minnesota, she spent her childhood in Minneapolis and moved to Chicago at the age of sixteen. After many years, she returned to college in the 1960s and earned B.A. and M.A degrees in English from Roosevelt University, specializing in modern drama and theater. After writing an M.A. thesis on the Chicago Repertory Group, she taught at Loop Junior College for twelve years. Following her retirement, she continued to teach English as a Second Language at Skokie Community College.
She is survived by her husband Norman L. Brown of Albany; her children Iris Berger [Ronald] of Delmar, New York and Arnie Brown [Dorrit] of Møgeltønder, Denmark; her granddaughters Allison, Anna, Cindy, and Suzy, and her great-grandson Leo. She was predeceased by two sisters, Lillian Goldberg and Dorothy Sennett.
A memorial in Chicago will be held at Weinstein Funeral Home 111 Skokie Blvd. Wilmette, IL on Friday January 23, 2009 at 11:00am and a celebration of her life in Albany will take place at the Daughers of Sarah Nursing Center, 180 Washington Ave. Ext. on February 1 at 2 p.m.
