Edith Scheiber, 90, most recently of Colonie Towers in Colonie and the Massry Residence in Albany, passed away on December 11, 2008, at the St. Peter's Hospice Inn. A 1936 graduate of Hunter College, she spent many years teaching elementary school in Rockland County, NY. Always a source of wisdom and guidance, she remained a teacher at heart throughout her life. She passed her passion for reading and knowledge, as well as her love for music and her eclectic interests, on to her children and grandchildren. Her husband of 62 years Milton, with whom she traveled extensively following their retirement, died in 2003. Surviving family members include daughter Ruth Blair and her husband Bill, son Steve Scheiber and his wife Mary, daughter Carol Gnacik and her husband Martin, and grandchildren Jennifer, Sara, Rachel, Eva, David, Emily, and Jacob. The family would like to thank the staff in the St. Peters 5th floor Cardiac Unit and the Hospice Inn for their excellent care, compassion, and support in this most difficult time.
A graveside service will be held at the Temple Israel cemetery (Western Avenue) on Sunday, December 14, at 12:30 pm after which the family will gather to remember her life at the home of Carol and Martin Gnacik at 15 Elmwood Street, Albany. Shiva will also be observed at the Gnacik home. Memorial contributions can be made to Temple Israel of Albany or Hospice of the Capital District.
