To Renie and family: I'm very saddened to learn of your recent loss. Especially in Kiwanis, Jesse was a close friend. I always looked up to him as a mentor who -- by example -- helped guide me in a positive direction in leading my own life. He taught me to put people first!

Whenever I think of Jesse, I think of a warm smile, twinkling eyes and always a BIG hug! Every summer we would go up for his family and friends' get together, enjoy the pool and catch up. As an only child, this seemed like the ideal family!
Jesse was always open to new experiences and helping others. He could discuss almost any subject from his point of view while leaving the door open for another's point of view. It seemed like his glass was always much more than "half full".
I'm sure that his smile, sparkling eyes and loving heart continue wherever he is now.

On this day, we think of our friend and his family. Jesse was a man of exceptional character, I met him about 10 years ago when he attended the World Brotherhood Camporee with Josh, we talked around the fire, he was impressed with our Troop Operations, and he shared with us his leadership experiences over the years, along with a lot of Scouting Memories. Jesse became a friend from then on. He'd look at me with a smile and said, "You've always got a purpose John, you may not tell everyone, however I know it's good for the Scouts!" He was a PROUD Grandpa of a 4th Generation Eagle, this is an unbelievable accomplishment in any family, and we know that he understood the Value of Family, Friends and Scouting. To say that our friend Jesse will be "missed," is a sincere understatement. His Leadership His Devotion His Compassion His Friendship The world is a lesser place without such a noble man. Our sincere Condolences to the Friends and Family of Jesse, we know your loss as it is ours also. Love, John & Kim Papp Sharon Springs, NY Retired Scoutmaster Troop 357 and Brother Eagle Scout.

Curt and I first met Jess and Renee when we were both in the Air Force, stationed in Loredo, Texas. We moved in across the street from them. Howard and Ken were both two and a half years old. Since Loredo is not the entertainment mecca of the world, and both families had limited funds, we made our own entertainment. We played bridge - a lot of bridge, exchanging host homes and bringing a blanket so the little ones could have sleepovers on the rug while we played cards. After Jess began his practice in New York, we kept in touch, until Curt retired from the Air Force. Once we settled in, first Connecticut, then New Hampshire, the families visited back and forth. The children, their four and our three, always got along well and called each other cousins. We enjoyed a friendship of over fifty years. We miss Jess very much and will stay in touch with the family. "Aunt" Lee

To the Vics Family, My sincere condolences to you in your time of sorrow. I am deeply sorry to hear about your father passing away. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Wishing you peace and comfort; courage to face the days ahead and loving memories to forever hold in your hearts. I have memories of the warmth of your father when I visited your house back in the 1970's as well as when I went for my eye appointments. He always had a smile on his face and was gentle to this shy girl. I remember sun filled days around your pool in Latham and how he used to set up the slip n slide for all of us. He was always full of life and good humor. With great sympathy to your family, my heart goes out to all of you...your Mother, Tracy, David, Michelle, and Howard.

To the wonderful family of Jess Vics. My heart goes out to you. He loved you all so much. He was full of love. Jess was a loving and supportive friend and lots of fun to be with. Jess met my late husband Sandy Kaps at an elite Optometric Conference. The friendship grew and Sandy and I and Renie and Jess became very good friends.We had such good times together whenever we visited each other just for fun and at family gatherings. Jess and Renie were loving and supportive of our daughter Amy when she attended Skidmore College. I especially enjoyed visiting Renie and Jess in Lake George the last two summers. We had so much fun. He was so caring and patient with his dear Renie. Jess was a super "Mensh". He did a lot of good in this world and many people will miss him. I shall never forget him.

I first met Jesse and family back in....I believe 1985-ish. My friend Victoria French(RIP) invited me over to the family home for a Seder dinner. I remember being nervous because I did not know the family nor was I familiar with the holiday customs. The Vics' welcomed me with open arms! The dinner was casual and Jesse led the prayer and fun and laughter followed the rest of the night over a big dinner table. I then became a "regular" at parties at 1 Primrose Lane. Jesse took me in as did his lovely wife Renie and all their magnificient children. Our friendship lasted decades and over the miles that distanced us all once we left NY and all moved south. The connection I have to him, and to this incredible family, will remain always. Thank you Jesse for your loving spirit, kindness and joy that you shared with me, and later Kevin. You are part of us, and we, you. Namaste my friend. xo

We kept in touch occasionally, and even tried to visit when your parents were heading back north, after wintering in GA. I live in NC, but grew up on Long Island. Your Dad shared part of his life over the years, and I was amazed at his many achievements in his lifetime. He mentioned his family often, Jess always loved to talk about his family, and often commented on things I had sent to him via e-mail. I will miss the connection to this special man. I forgot -- but I met your mother many years ago at Colonie Hadassah meetings! So when we eventually connected, we were really reconnecting to some extent! And didn't Seth (as Stephanie) go to your house for a visit or a birthday party...or more?
* * * * *
Gosh, I hope I can remember this correctly...and it may be more than you ever wanted to know. LOL!
My father went to your dad because no one else was able to help him improve his vision as his macular degeneration progressed. Then I went to him for my refractions. In about 1998, when we bought our Class A motorhome, we somehow connected with the local Jewish RVing group(AJACs -- and I don't recall what the acronym stood for) and went on several RV trips with your parents and others. A highlight of those trips was your dad and Max Tiller "bouncing" jokes off each other. They were the entertainment for those trips.
That led to our going out with them socially, visiting them at Deer Run when they "summered" there, and going out for dinner with your dad when he would come to Albany for Albany Med board meetings during the winter, often without your mom--all before we moved to Jacksonville in 2007. They visited us in Jacksonville in 2011 (it's nice to have a calendar on the computer so I can find such things!) When we returned to Albany last summer, we were happy to be able to get together with them a couple of times. As usual, we kept in touch via email during the winter...and then we were planning to visit your folks in Lake George this summer...and the rest is history. <sigh>
We enjoyed our friendship with your parents, and appreciated the fact that even though there was a big difference in professions (your dad being a medical professional and Stu a bus driver), we were always treated as "equals." One funny story is that we were in a camping trip, and your dad called a repairman to fix something on his motorhome. The repairman insisted on cash payment, but not until he was finished with his work, and your father didn't have a couple hundred dollars in cash with him...but Stu did. So Stu paid and your dad sent us a check immediately thereafter. So I guess it doesn't matter what your profession is...as long as you carry cash. LOL!
Hope this helps!
Judy
