Obituary of Helen Garbowitz

Helen Kaplan Garbowitz, age 100 of the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center in Albany died on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at the nursing home. Helen was born in Belarus, Russia and resided many years in Schenectady where she worked alongside her husband operating the former Pleasant Valley Poultry. She relocated to Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1962 where she and her late husband were the owners and operators of a pizza business. Following their retirement, they returned to the Schenectady area. Helen enjoyed crafts, especially knitting and crocheting and has left many of her pieces for her family's enjoyment. Helen was married to Morris Garbowitz until his passing. Loving mother of Fred (Karen) Garbowitz of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Sondra (Lewis) Rosewater of White Plains, NY and Arlene (Elliott) Rosen of Southfield, Michigan. She was the cherished grandmother of Dr.Karen Rosewater (Ray Lopez), David Rosewater (Mary), Renee Rivers (Michael), Andrew Garbowitz, Nicholas Garbowitz, Daniel Garbowitz (Tiffany), Jeffrey Rosen (Amanda) and Michael Rosen (Melissa). She also leaves 7 adoring great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 4 sisters and 3 brothers. Service will be held in the chapel at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center, 180 Washington Avenue Extension in Albany on Friday, June 20, 2014 at 11:30am. Interment will follow in the Beth Emeth Cemetery in Loudonville, NY.
