Obituary of Myrna Joyce Silver
Myrna Joyce Silver, age 82 of Augusta, Georgia died on Saturday, June 14, 2014. Born in Albany, NY on July 6, 1931, Myrna was the daughter of the late Bernard and Harriet Myers Friedman. Myrna grew up in Schenectady, NY and was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School where she was Concert Mistress of the Orchestra. She also graduated from Skidmore College in 1953. where she majored in Music Education and Violin. She taught music after graduation at Westmere Elementary School and lived in Schenectady until she married Milton Silver of Augusta, Georgia in 1956. and settled in Augusta. Myrna had a lifelong love of music: including Symphonic, choral, opera, and Broadway musicals. While a high school student she played violin in the Schenectady Symphony Orchestra. Myrna also had a love of art of which she was very knowledgeable and was a Docent at the Morris Museum of Art in Augusta. Myrna became an avid bridge player, especially duplicate, when she retired from teaching music in the Richmond County School System in Augusta. She had resumed teaching after her two daughters were in elementary school. Myrna had a great sense of fashion and home decorating, She always dressed beautifully She was also an excellent cook and baker. She had a large number of close friends. She was charitable with her time and money for the Jewish Federation, her Temple, the art museum etc. Myrna will always be remembered for the love she had for her children, in particular making sure they had the best educations possible.
Myrna is survived by her daughters, Bryna Silver (Andrew) Scott of Philadelphia, and Robyn Silver (Fred) Steinman of Memphis, TN. She also leaves her granddaughter, Haley Steinman who was the sunshine in Myrna's life and our family is grateful that she was able to attend Haley's recent graduation from high school. Myrna also leaves her brother, Dr. Robert (Patricia) Friedman of Albany, four nieces, three grand nieces and one grand nephew. She was predeceased by her in-laws Hill and Jennie Silver, her parents, Bernard and Harriet Myers Friedman, her uncle George Myers and her aunt Ceil Myers Schutzman.
Graveside services will be held at the Beth Emeth Cemetery on Turner Lane in Loudonville, NY on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at 11:00am The period of mourning will be observed on Tuesday at the home of Dr. Robert and Patricia Friedman, 392 Greenway in Albany commencing at 7pm...Those wishing to remember Myrna in a special way may make a memorial contribution to a charity of your choice.
