Obituary of Matthew Gingold
Matthew L. Gingold born 1923, died June 9th after a valiant struggle with restrictive cardiomyopathy and end stage renal failure. Born in Albany, NY he was son of the late Herman and Sophie Gingold. He was a graduate from Albany High and Rochester Institute of Technology, plus a WW II veteran. Mat was predeceased by sisters Molly Falkow Linden (Jacob & Jack) and Ethel Zimmerman (Jack). He is survived by sister Lena Gleckel (Jack), wife Norma Weingrad Gingold and children Joseph Gingold, Nancy Gingold and Linda Gingold Seaman (Martin Seaman). Matt worked at the Times Union, a Gannett Newspaper for 35 years. He was a dedicated 62-year member of the Masonic Inspiration Lodge F.& A.M. 109. As a member of the Scottish Rite he was 32nd degree mason and a recipient of the meritorious service medal award (red cap), a Lodge Past Master, past Grand Lodge Steward, and Lodge Chaplain. His contributions to masonry also included participation and instruction at the school of rituals. He continuously participated as an active volunteer for Masonic sponsored charity events and activities including being a hospitaler. As dedicated blood donor he developed collaborative Red Cross/all-county lodge blood drives. He started the foundation of the Masonic Times newspaper and worked tireless hours as an editor and typesetter. He was a long time member of the Boy Scouts of American and a Silver Beaver Recipient. Mat continued to display his dry sense of humor and famous smile until the end.
A Masonic service will be held in Rochester, NY at a later date. Linda Gingold Seaman will receive visitors, Thursday & Sunday at 73 Delafield Drive, Albany between 12:00-3:30 and 7:30-9:00 PM. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to a charity of your choice
