Dear Person family.....My wife Lisa Atkinson and I treasured all of the gifts that Jill and the rest of you gave to her and to children's music all over the world. And now we've lost them both. They will always live on here in so many hearts.

Don, Rachel, & Eric, Terri and I want to send our love to you all in this sad time. The photo of Jill smiling on this page is so perfect. That smile is what I will remember, as well as the kindness and hospitality she showed me when I was a stranger in this part of the world so long ago. The old house on Partridge was a refuge for me in some lonely times. Jill always made me feel welcome. I will try to do the same for someone in her honor.

Jill and I have known each other for 45 years. We met at SUNY Albany during some crazy crazy times. During this period and all these years afterwards I always considered her a constant in my life, a friendship that was as strong as she was. Her great spirit and intelligence always won through no matter how hard or strange the situation was. She is one of the few people I have known who went on to have the life she wanted. She started Gentle Wind an innovation at the time. She did lovely, witty drawings which she used in the business. She found a wonderful husband and had a happy family and life in Albany, the place where we started out. She was exceptionally bright and discerning of talent and knew how to get things done. She was a rock for me and everyone who knew her. Now the world has shaken. She had to leave us far too soon. I'll love you always Jill.

Dear Rachel, I am so sorry to learn of the passing of your mother. From her obituary I can see that she was an extraordinary woman, caring and creative, and I can also see where you got your love of books and your joy at sharing literature with others. The loss of a mother is such a hard milestone in one's life. I hope her memory will be a comfort, especially as you mother your own children.

I have been thinking about the first time I met Jill, and also about the last time. Both times she was gracious, welcoming, and kind. She helped me be my best self when I told stories, and she taught me so much about honoring the intelligence of children. But most importantly, Jill became my friend, my confidant, someone I could talk to for hours. We shared favorite books, and we discovered new music. I love Jill, and I am so grateful that I became part of the charmed circle around her. My love and condolences to Donald, Eric, Rachel, Steve, Anna, and David.

I am so very sorry to have heard of the passing of this giant of a woman. On so many levels over a few decades I have had the honor and privilege to have gotten to know and work with Jill. First to have been asked to be a part of several recording projects for both her artists as well as special projects she created for Scholastic. Later Jill will have groomed me to understand what was needed and how it was to be prepared to have everything just right for the commercial release of several personal bodies of work but also for several multi cd sets created to support concert series that I present. Jill the world has lost an absolute incredible sweet and gentle spirit. I am honored to have been blessed to cross paths with you and thank you for everything. May you rest in peace and please know the the ripples you have made on earth will forever be in motion. God bless you and your entire family.

I am dedicating this week's Biz Booster to the memory of my dear friend Jill Person. Jill lost her fight with Pancreatic Cancer on Tuesday, May 27th. I celebrate her life and her life's purpose.
Jill and her husband Donald created an award-winning children's music label to help children's music artists share their music and bring quality, age-appropriate learning through music, to newborns and young children. A Gentle Wind began with that simple idea and over the years, Jill has nurtured their dream to touch children and families around the world.
They first began recording local musicians in and around Albany, NY. Regional and national musicians who passed through and performed in the area learned about A Gentle Wind and partnered with them when they had a collection of songs for children that fit.
I celebrate Jill here because she always inspired me in the way she believed in her dream and made something wonderful from a simple idea. I celebrate her creativity and attention to details and her dedication to quality and care for the music, the art and the artists. As her little company grew, I was in awe of her steadfast determination to stick to her ideals and not get swallowed up by the big labels or move into a new faze of growth to quickly. She kept a constant eye on quality.
Jill and Donald were among the very first people I told I had decided to write a book, my first book, How To Be Your Own Booking Agent. I was visiting them at their lake home in the Adirondack's. Jill had just returned from the American Bookseller's Association conference. I mentioned that I had no idea where to find the resources I needed to publish my own book such as editors, printers, etc. Jill walked over to her bag, still not unpacked, and pulled out the directory from the conference and said, "Everything you need is in here." So with Jill's help, I was on my way to making my dream a reality.
Over the years, their artist's recordings won Parent's Choice Awards among many others. Jill was focused on getting families age-appropriate music to help their children grow and learn. I cherish the thought that tonight there are young mothers holding their babes as they listen to music they heard while in their own mom's arms that Jill personally helped produce, create the artwork, package and ship to those families.
Jill Person created a ripple in the world with a project she believed in and to which she was fiercely dedicated. That ripple can be felt by all the families who enjoy the music, the artists who created the music, the educational organizations who benefited from the music and in the lives of those who were blessed to know her. Her legacy will be that her simple idea, years ago, will continue to bring joy and learning to so many and will inspire all who have been touched by her gentle soul. She is a testament to the idea of acting on your dreams and seeing them through. Jill, your Gentle Wind continues to create ripples around the world.
You will be remembered.

Jill, whom I've known since the 1970's, was a wonderfull, compassionate, and loving person. One of the most giving and caring people it has been my honor to know. I was too late in sending a card which stated to her how much I cherished her friendship over the years. She was a light in MY life and I will miss her terribly.
My LOVE to Rachel, Donald, and Eric, whom I ALSO love and cherish.
