Obituary of Richard Swire
SWIRE, Richard B., 84, passed away on April 23, 2014 at The Glen at Hiland
Meadows following a heroic battle against cancer. Born in Albany, he was the
only child of Max and Pauline Swire. Following graduation from Russell Sage with
a bachelors degree in business administration, Dick served in the U.S. Army
during the Korean War, when he was stationed in Japan and began his lifelong
love of travel. He returned to Albany following his service and worked as a
retail merchant at Swire Appliance, the business started by his parents.
After retiring in 1980, Dick moved full time to Three Brother Islands in
Bolton Landing, New York with his beloved wife, Patricia (Pat). During this
time, Dick was active in the local community and served as past President of the
Lake George Association.
Dick was passionately committed to his local community and the sustainability
of the Lake George region. He was a devoted boater, sailor, water-skier and
hiker, and he shared his enthusiasm for these activities with Pat, his many
friends and family members.
In addition to Pat, Dick is survived by his daughter, Alisa; step-children
Carol Lehrer, Kenneth Weiss and Jacqueline Dreyfus; his granddaughter, Mya
Carter; seven step-grandchildren; and two nephews.
A gravesite service for close friends and family was held at Beth Emeth
Cemetery on Friday morning and a memorial service is planned for the summer.
