Obituary of Martin R. Birnby
Martin Birnby died on Friday, April 18th, 2014 in Schenectady, NY.
Marty was born in Manhattan, NY in 1938 and grew up in Jackson Heights, Queens, NY. He lived in Schenectady, NY for over 40 years before moving with his wife Linda to Albany in 2008.
Marty was preceded in death by his parents Julius and Clara Birnby. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda (Levy) Birnby, daughter Debbie Birnby, son Jim Birnby and daughter-in-law Angela Rella, grandchildren Lucia and Giordano Birnby, sisters Rhoda Horowitz and Elayne Flax, and several nieces and nephews.
Marty received a BS degree in materials science and engineering (course 3) from MIT in 1959 and an MBA from Wharton in 1961. He worked at Draper and Raytheon in Massachusetts before coming to work as a metallurgist at KAPL in Schenectady in 1963. He was co-author of a patent issued in 1969. He retired in 1993.
Marty was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin and uncle. Education was very important to him. Through his love of learning and games, he taught many people. He was an enthusiastic bridge player who had many friends throughout the community and the world. He will be missed.
Services at Congregation Agudat Achim, 2117 Union Street Schenectady on Sunday, April 20, 2014 at 1:00pm. Interment will follow in the Agudat Achim Cemetery on Schermerhorn Street in Rotterdam, NY
