Obituary of Newton H. Kaplan
Newton H. Kaplan, of Albany, NY died Wednesday evening peacefully at home with family, as he wished.
Born and raised in Albany, NY, he was a husband, father, grandfather and professional engineer. He was the owner of N.H. Kaplan, Inc., construction and engineering.
Newton was a graduate of Albany High School and thenUniversity of Missouri at Rolla, then known at The Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy. He was previously a board member of The Daughters of Sarah and active in the building of the newer facility on the Washington Avenue Extension. He loved to ski in the winter and to sail on his beloved laser sailboat in the summers. He loved to visit his daughters in New York city, walk miles and miles for dim sum and hang out at any construction site he could find, particularly if there was a giant crane.
He is survived by his wife, Roddie Dobris Kaplan, daughters Michelle Kaplan and her husband David Cohen of Scarsdale, NY; Jennifer Kaplan and her husband Edward Wong of Oakland, CA; Matthew Kaplan and his wife Alejandra Kaplan of Arlington, VA. Grandfather of Brian and Andrea Kaplan and Joshua, Samuel and Olivia Cohen. He also leaves canine grandkids Rocky and Brooke and felines Lizard Boy and Blu.
Services at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue, Albany on Sunday March 23, 2014 at 1pm. Interment will follow at the Beth Emeth Cemetery in Loudonville.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, The American Diabetes Association and Hospice of Albany are appreciated.
