Obituary of Lillian Carol Ornston
Aventura, Florida - Lillian Carol Ornston, age 89, of Avenura, Florida, passed away early morning, February 25, 2014, in Aventura, peacefully surrounded by her loving children. Lillian was born in Brooklyn, NY June 28th, 1924, then was raised and resided in Schenectady, NY. She attended Mont Pleasant High School where she was editor of the school paper, Watchtower. After graduation, Lillian worked at GE during WWII. She met her husband, Hubert (Bud) Ornston, at a JCC dance. They were married three months later and happily together until his passing almost 52 years later. Lillian worked at Union College for many years, was an avid tennis player, and was famous for her stuffing and cole slaw. Lillian was a member of Congregation Agudat Achim and a life member of Hadassah.
Every one loved Lil. She always had an open heart and a welcoming home. Lillian is survived by her four children. Son, Sidney Ornston and his wife Micheline of Delmar, NY, daughter, Meryl Benko of Gaithersberg, MD, daughter, Sharla Tandler and husband Robert of Union, NJ and son, David Ornston of Los Angeles, CA. Lillian is also survived by five adoring grandchildren, Sarah Benko, Michael Benko, Max Tandler, Lisa Wilkie and Dean DeMeo.
Services at Congregation Agudat Achim, 2117 Union St, Schenectady, NY on Sunday, March 2, at 2pm. Interment will follow in the Agudat Achim Cemetery in Rotterdam located at the end of Schermerhorn Street. The Period of Mourning will be observed at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Ornston, 1007 Delaware Ave, Delmar, NY 12054 on Sunday and Monday only.
