Marcia Blumenthal (Fossaner)
Rexford, NY - Marcia Blumenthal passed away peacefully on February 8, at the age of 84 after a lengthy illness, with her beloved husband, Malcolm, and daughter Linda Gellman by her side.
Marcia grew up in Richmond Hill, Queens and after marrying Malcolm (Mal) the couple lived in Sunnyside, Queens and Woodside, Queens. After retirement, they also enjoyed spending winters in Orlando, Florida. Recently, they moved to Coburg Village in Rexford, NY.
Marcia was predeceased by her daughter Debra (Paul) Crane in 1997.
Marcia will by mourned by her beloved husband of 63 years, Malcolm, daughter Linda (Stephen) Gellman of Clifton Park, Paul (Andrea) Crane of Roslyn, Long Island, grandchildren Brett (Rachel) Gellman, Adam Gellman, Danielle Crane, Erica Crane, Emily Crane, and great- grandson Asher Gellman. She will be missed by dear friends both in New York and Orlando.
The family would like to express their appreciation to her devoted aides, Terry Evans, Callie Allard, Sarah Korobovsky, Carmen Singh, and Heather Blackwood for the loving care they provided for Marcia.
Marcia was a teacher for 25 years at P.S. 11 in Woodside, Queens. She was adored by her students and was voted teacher of the year for 5 years in a row. Her passion was history, and frequently took trips to historical sights all over New York City.
Marcia's passion for learning extended into her retirement years when she and Mal traveled extensively all over the world. She loved the arts including the ballet and opera, and saw almost every Broadway show imaginable.
Marcia was passionate about Judaism, Jewish history and traditions. She was president of the Sunnyside Chapter of B'nai B'rith Women and was a life member of Haddassah.
Marcia was the life force of the family and kept in touch with relatives near and far. Family was of utmost importance to her and loved to celebrate each holiday and life event with her loved ones. The grandchildren loved to visit their grandparents in Orlando during school vacations.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, February 11th, at Parkside Memorial Chapel in Rego Park, Queens. The period of mourning will be observed on Wednesday, February 12th from 4 -7 pm with a Minyan at 7 pm, Thursday, February 13th, from 3-7 pm, and Friday, February 14th, from 2-4 pm at the home of Linda and Stephen Gellman, 12 Brier Patch Court, Clifton Park, NY. Donations in her honor may be made to Saratoga Community Hospice or Congregation Beth Shalom in Clifton Park.
