Obituary of David Steinberg
DAVID J. STEINBERG
David J. Steinberg, 93, a 60-year resident of Alexandria, Virginia, died November 23rd at Mount Vernon Hospital in Alexandria, Virginia.
David was born in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1918, to Myer and Mary Steinberg. He graduated from Boston Latin School in 1935, received his BA from The University of Vermont in 1939 and earned his MA from Harvard University in 1941.
A veteran of the Army Air Forces during World War II, David spent the greater part of his career as Chief Economist and Executive Director with the Committee for a National Trade Policy and was awarded the Cordell Hull Award by the U.S. Council for an Open World Economy. He was co-founder and Executive Director of the National Council for a Responsible Firearms Policy. David also contributed to various booklets and articles on trade policy issues, and worked on the Marshall Plan as a member of the Special U.S. Economic Mission to the United Kingdom.
Beloved husband of the late Florence Swire Steinberg, David is survived by his brother (Joseph Z. Steinberg, of Brookline, MA); two children (Sue Steinberg, of Montpelier, VT and Ben Steinberg, of Alexandria, VA); two grandchildren (Michael Orrick, of Montpelier, VT and Sara Orrick, of Alexandria, VA), as well as nieces and nephews.
