Obituary of Esther Finkelstein
Esther Peller Finkelstein, age 86 of the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home in Albany died on Wednesday evening, February 5, 2014 at the nursing home. Born in Albany, Esther was a lifelong resident. She had been employed by New York State Dept. of Professional Licensing and Education for 18 years. Following her retirement from NYS Government, Esther worked for many years as a secretary at Congregation Beth Abraham Jacob in Albany where she was a member as well.
She was a mentor and a member of the former Abigail # 3 U.O.T.S. in Albany for many years. She was a life member of Hadassah and enjoyed playing mahjong.
Esther was married to Ellis Finkelstein until his passing in 1992. She was the loving mother of Barbara (Rich) Hochberg of Albany. She also leaves nieces and nephews. Esther was predeceased by a son Louis Finkelstein, a sister Yetta Herd and brothers, Joseph, Morris and Henry Peller.
Service at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue Albany, NY on Friday, February 7, 2014 at 10:00am. Interment will follow in the Beth Abraham Jacob Cemetery on Fuller Road in Guilderland, NY. The period of mourning will be observed at the Hochberg residence, 17 Crestwood Court in Albany following the service of interment, resuming Saturday evening at 7:00pm and continuing throughout the week. Esther's family would like to thank the nursing staff on the red unit at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home for the love and care given to Esther during her stay as well as the entire professional staff at the nursing home for their compassion and friendship. Our sincere thanks also to Shawna for her special friendship.
