Obituary of Sanford M. Epstein
Sanford (Sandy) Epstein, age 82 of Brunswick, NY died on Monday morning, February 3, 2014 at the Samaritan Hospital in Troy. Sandy was born in Albany and has been a Capital District resident all his life At age 16, he won a contest from WPTR to be a radio disc jockey for a day. The station was very impressed with him which began his broadcasting career. He was known on the radio as "Sandy Taylor". Prior to his retirement, Sandy hosted a radio show on Saturdays from 1-3pm known as "Band by Demand" He was US Army Veteran and serve during the Korean Conflict with the Armed Forces Network stationed in Paris and Germany. Following the service he returned home and resumed his career in radio. In addition to his career with WPTR, he was a sales manager for Radio Station WGNA for many years. Later, Sandy was the owner and operator of the former Wine Chateau in Troy which earned him national recognition for outstanding window displays. He was a baseball enthusiast and lifelong fan of the Cleveland Indians. Sandy was a member of Congregation Berith Sholom in Troy as well as a member of the Kiwanis.
Sandy is survived by his loving wife, Maxine Sheinfeld Epstein, Devoted father of Randy Epstein and his wife Phylys of Stillwater, NY and Abby Clowe and her husband Brad of Troy, NY. Cherished grandfather of Stephanie and Amanda Clowe.
Services at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue in Albany on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 12 noon. Interment will follow in the Berith Sholom Cemetery on Belle Avenue in Troy, NY. The period of mourning will be observed at the Epstein residence in Brunswick, NY on Thursday following the service of interment and on Friday from 1-4 pm.
