Obituary of Stanley Lord
. Stanley Lord of Sunrise and Poestenkill, a retired pharmacist, science teacher, farmer and loving father of five, died on Sunday, January 12, 2014 in Florida. He was 79. Born in Brooklyn to Frances and Harry Grossman, Stanley graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy of Long Island University in Brooklyn and earned advanced degrees in education from the City University of New York. Stanley owned his own pharmacy in Jamaica, N.Y. and worked in several independently owned pharmacies in Brooklyn where he spent 30 highly rewarding years teaching chemistry and general science at three public high schools, Abraham Lincoln, Erasmus Hall and his beloved John Dewey. Starting in 1980, he fulfilled a longtime dream with another career as a vegetable farmer, working his historic Broadlands Farm in Poestenkill. Stanley brought the same energy and passion that made him such a popular and respected teacher to farming, and the produce he sold at his roadside stand and area markets as well as to restaurants and supermarkets was highly valued. Most of all, Stanley valued and was valued by his family. He is survived by his children, Russell Lord (Avi Ozeri) of Tel Aviv, Israel, Laurence Lord (Jeanette) of Staten Island, Amy Lord McRae (Kelly) of Los Angeles, Jonathan Lord of Washington, D.C. and Alexander Lord of Poestenkill. He was the grandfather of Jennifer Lord, Samantha Greene (Jared), Harry Blumsack, Jacqueline Blumsack, Hallie McRae, Jamie McRae and Yaeli McRae. He also leaves his wife, the Hon. Nancy Hershey Lord of New York and Poestenkill, and two brothers, Robert Grossman (Linda) of Bellmore and Bernard Grossman (Adrienne) of Hallandale Beach, Fla.; nieces and nephews; a former son-in-law, Gary Blumsack and companion Juanita Gallo. In addition to his parents, Stanley was predeceased by his first wife, Jacqueline Klores Lord, and an infant son, Douglas Lord. A service will be conducted at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Ave., Albany on Friday, January 17 at 11 a.m. Friends may congregate with the family prior to the service at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in the Hebrew Farmers
Cemetery in Guilderland. Those wishing to remember Stanley may make a memorial contribution to the Nassau Synagogue and JCC in Nassau, N.Y., the Hunger Action Network of New York State, or a charity of their choice .
