Obituary of Lillian Wertheimer

Lillian Wertheimer, age 103, passed away December 27, 2013 at St. Peter's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Albany. Born in Brooklyn, New York April 2, 1910, Lillian lived in Albany, New York for 61 years. She loved. Albany. As a young woman, she worked as a bookkeeper and model for Rilander and Schwarz in New York and was very proud to always fulfill their high expectations Married to Henry in 1937, her life became increasingly varied, challenging and interesting. They moved to Lansing, Michigan and established a milking machine business. While Henry got the orders, Lillian ran the factory and shipped the machines to waiting farmers. They also owned one of the first gas-driven lawnmower businesses. They were partners in many ventures throughout their 52 years of marriage. Henry and Lillian owned buildings on State Street and were very proud to be involved in real estate in an important part of Albany. Lillian was Henry's best friend and helpmate. They had two children, Arnold Wertheimer and Judith Wertheimer Okun as well as three grandchildren, Susan Okun Bogner (Nicholas), Lynne Okun, Hilary Okun and two great- grandchildren, Emily and Noah Bogner. Lillian inspired her family through her example of love and loyalty as well as her dedicated determination, intelligence and character. She was kind, thoughtfully considerate, fun and interesting to be with, and always able to face challenges with confidence that she could figure out the solutions. She always encouraged her family in any endeavor and was first in the confidence-building department with her advice, interest, and cheerleading. Hard work was the key to her longevity as well as common sense and a healthy diet. She loved gardening, grew and canned fruits and vegetables for years; her hands were never idle with the superb cooking, knitting, sewing, and designing. Her interest in ideas and politics, her "can-do" attitude and the generosity of her extreme love for her family were all part of what made Lillian so special. She will be forever missed by those who loved her and long remembered for her special uniqueness. Services at the Levine Memorial Chapel. 649 Washington Avenue, Albany, NY on Monday December 30, 2013 at 1:00pm. Interment will follow in the Beth Emeth Cemetery in Loudonville, NY.
