June 16th,1928 to December 26th 2013
Robert (Bob) Coleman, 85, passed away on December 26th at the EVG Beverwyck where he lived for the past 2 years. A native New Yorker, Bob grew up in the Bronx and later settled in Wantagh Long Island where he raised his children. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time in Montauk, NY and living in Florida. Bob loved spending these years near the water. He graduated from City College in NY with an accounting degree and devoted his working career as a partner in the CPA firm of Margolin, Winer, and Evens. He made lifelong friends with both his colleagues and clients. He served in the Army during the Korean conflict, was a devoted member and volunteer of Suburban Temple in LI and supported numerous charities. From very humble beginnings in the Bronx he had an internal drive that led him to succeed in whatever he set his mind to. He set high standards for himself and whomever he did business with. He was exceptionally honest and trustworthy. He always said "your word is your word" he would follow through on every promise he ever made. He was a man full of generosity and modesty, helping anyone who asked and those that didn't. Going out of his way quietly to help others was the norm for Bob. He had an abundance of energy and was a true athlete. He was a New York State Champion swimmer, an avid paddleball player, runner, sailor, and golfer. He loved to square dance and was voted best dancer in Jamaica High School. His greatest joys came from his family with whom he passionately spent time with. He visited Albany so regularly people often thought he lived up here. His smile and warmth touched so many. He made life special for a lot of people and he will be missed.
Bob is survived by his children Matthew (Nafees) Coleman, Laura (Hilton Zvi) Segal his loving grandchildren Ariella, Samuel, Benjamin, Talia, and Zackary. He was predeceased by his parents Lillian and Morris Coleman.
