Obituary of Irene Globerson
Irene Globerson (formerly Sumberg) of Rockville, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 3, at the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington. Born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1923, Irene was the daughter of the late Charles and Belle Silver. She moved to Schenectady during WWII when her first husband, the late Harvey Sumberg, was serving overseas as a Staff Sergeant in the Army. After his death in 1982, Irene married Joseph Globerson of Albany, N.Y, in 1985. They remained together until his death in 2011. For many years Irene worked as a clerk and buyer at a variety of retail clothing stores in Schenectady. She also volunteered at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center. A loving mother and grandmother and a caring and loyal friend, Irene was pre-deceased by her sisters Evelyn Maidenbaum and Caroline Meltzer. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, David Sumberg and Vivian Ubell of Brooklyn, NY, Paul and Chris Sumberg of Cornville, ME, and Jeffrey and Paula Sumberg of Bethesda MD; her step-children Jon Globerson, Mark and Esther Globerson, and Diane Hoenzch; and 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Services at the Agudat Achim Cemetery, Schermerhorn Street, Rotterdam, NY on Friday, November 8, 2013 at 12 noon. A reception in her honor will follow at the Holiday Inn, 205 Wolf Road in Albany, New York
