Obituary of Judith S. Gold
Gold, Judith Silberfein ALBANY
Judith Silberfein Gold of Albany died on May 8, 2020, in Albany. Judy was born in Brooklyn and grew up in Huntington, New York. She was a sweet, kind and giving woman who charmed all with her wit and smile.
An avid reader, and, in her younger years, bridge player, golfer and tennis player, Judy also loved raising bonsai plants and spending time on Candlewood Lake where she water-skied every year on her birthday. Judy loved to host parties and holidays for friends and family with Manny, including the Gold’s Annual 4th of July Celebration; serving enough food to feed an “army.”
She leaves behind her son Steve Gold (Bonnie) and her daughter Sue Gold; Judy’s granddaughters, her pride and joy, Emily Borst and Jaclyn (Jackie) Gold. Judy also leaves behind brother Stephen ("Uncle Boy”) and Linda, and her sister-in-law Jane along with many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and countless good friends.
Judy was predeceased by her devoted husband, Emanuel R. (Manny) Gold , her sons Jeffrey and Adam; and her parents Ann (Permut) and George J. Silberfein as well as her brother Michael.
Judy was married to the late Emanuel R. (Manny) Gold for more than 54 years. They lived in Queens, New York until Judy moved to the Albany area two years ago. A steadfast partner in all his endeavors, Judy helped Manny author several laws while he was in the New York State legislature. Her idea for labeling pills quickly spread from a New York law to laws across the nation and the world. Labeling medicine helped people avoid accidentally taking the wrong medication and helps medical professionals quickly identify what medicine someone took when they are not able to communicate it themselves.
Judy was passionate about serving the community, was active in the PTA and other local organizations. Judy was a leader who inspired and engaged people. Judy loved going to theater with Manny and in later years especially with her daughter Sue.
The role she loved most was as an incredibly devoted and loving mother and later grandmother. Judy was hands-on as a full-time teacher, nurse and mother for a son who needed extra care In the days before schools assigned resources to children, Judy took him to school and sat outside the classroom to be able to provide medical attention when he needed it.
As a grandmother, Judy was in her glory - always looking forward to seeing her granddaughters, Emily and Jackie, and taking great pride in their many accomplishments. Judy loved to travel and instilled a love of travel and seeing the world in her children and grandchildren in recent year taking several family vacations with Bonnie, Steve and their girls as well as two family vacations to Europe with Steve, Bonnie, Sue, Emily and Jackie.
Judy went peacefully with her children at her side listening to her favorite song. Due to social distancing restrictions, there was a small graveside service for her immediate family and the family will be sitting shiva in private. Sometime in the future there will be a memorial remembrance. The family wants to express their gratitude to the Daughters of Sarah Massry Residence in Albany, New York for the gentle, loving and compassionate hospice care Judy received there. In lieu of flowers, donations in Judy’s memory may be made to Temple Beth El of Troy, New York (betheloftroy.org) or the Kidney Foundation (kidneyfund.org).
