It was with great sorrow that I discovered today that Alice is no longer with us. Alice and Bernie practically adopted me when I started at GE in 1980, my first job after graduating. I have never known such kind, enthusiastic, generous, interesting, intelligent, caring and principled people as Alice and Bernie. I learned so much about life and the world from them. My wife and I were fortunate to have been able to return to New York in July of 2016 to visit Alice. She prepared a wonderful dinner for us and had us back the next morning for breakfast. We will miss her delightful Bronx accent.

Mrs. Gorowitz taught both of my children in second grade. She encouraged my daughter's lifelong love of books. We all loved her. I’m a retired teacher. I never taught with Alice, but I spent a lot of time at Brown School and watched her teach. I think of her as one of the best teachers I knew. I still remember things she said to me at parent conferences. In later years, we lived in the same area in Clifton Park. We chatted occasionally. My son would walk his son over to her house on Halloween just so he could say hello and introduce his son to his favorite teacher. The impact she had on others will live on in generations. I want to thank her family for sharing her with us.

I want to express my condolences to the family of Alice Gorowitz. I am a former student of hers, for which I am very grateful. Thirty years have now passed since I was her second-grade student, and I believe she was instrumental in my growth as a person and as a lifelong learner. I have nothing but fond memories of her care, patience, and guidance. I thought about her so often in the years that followed that I even nominated her several times for the national teacher of the year award when I was older. She embodied the best values of what it means to be a teacher and I will always treasure the time I spent in her classroom. My thoughts are with your family.
