To Mike, Barbara and the extended Ruslander family,
On behalf of Maria and I, we wish to extend our condolences regarding your father's passing. We spoke with him briefly at a season's greeting celebration in your home in the midst of a wicked snow storm. It was evident that he was an accomplished gentleman who truly appreciated celebrating the holidays with family and friends reveling in all of your families' personal achievements.
May he be inscribed in the book of life and honored by your collective memories and always provide a source of comfort and reassurance as time progresses.
Respectfully,
Mr. & Mrs. Jay & Maria Baum

To the entire Ruslander family,
Bob was a gentleman and a scholar, and always a delight to spend time with. I remember well his days with Ainsworth, Sullivan and most recently had the pleasure of dealing with him on a matter in the Appellate Division. He was from the old school of lawyering - always professional, courteous, humorous and congenial. A great lawyer and a wonderful human being. He will be missed by all, but he and Claire are together again.
My sincerest condolences.

Dear Michael, Betsy & David,
You know how much we loved your Dad and we'll miss him dearly. We will always cherish the many happy reunions at your parents home over college breaks - your Dad was always so interested in what ever we had going on in our lives, big or small. What would we have done without the many personal references he wrote for us while starting our careers - or the legal advise when needed it in the future! We've been blessed to know and love your Dad and take heart in knowing that he and your Mom are together again.
Love, Greg and Joanne

Dear Mike, Dave, and Betsy,
Donna and I were saddened to learn of the passing of your father. He was a gentleman in the best and broadest sense of that term – unfailingly caring, engaged, and positive. In all the years we knew him as neighbors, it was always a pleasure to stop and talk with him on our walks. We greatly admired the enormous and life-long commitment to our community. He was truly a model citizen as well as a wonderful all-around man. We know you will miss him, but he leaves a wonderful legacy.

Bob and Claire were among my parents’ dearest friends. In addition to their parents, children often look to others for role models and Bob was one of mine. He was kind, thoughtful, and funny. As a child I loved talking to him about baseball. As I grew older we talked about what it’s like to be an attorney. He allowed me to accompany him to his office and to court on several occasions. He didn’t make the practice of law look glamorous but he did make it seem worthwhile. After I started practicing I enjoyed sharing stories about our respective cases. And about the books we were reading (no one I knew read more books than Bob). People have all sorts of connections with others as they go through life and I feel very fortunate I had at least a modest connection with Bob for so many years.
The common definition of mensch is a person of integrity and honor. It’s a beautiful Yiddish word reserved for exemplary people. In his devotion to his family, caring for his friends, service to his community, and deep respect and pride for his profession, Bob clearly deserves to be called a mensch.

Bob and Claire were part of a small group that we called the Delmar Aces. For many years, we played cards once a month and went to Cape Cod for a week after labor day. We had an ongoing penny ante poker game. More importantly, we were all friends. Bob was one of the most well read people I have ever known, loved to discuss any issue intelligently, and had a great sense of humor. He was kind and generous. His (and Claire's) legacy is that his children are wonderful humans, also.

As Bob and Claire were long time neighbors of mine in Delmar, I became quite fond of Bob’s low pressure demeanor and his incessant energy. Smiles, big hellos, tennis racquets, convertibles and a family that provided younger parents something to strive for.
I became friends with all three children and hold that friendship to this day even after relocating out of state. Bob and Claire provided me the opportunity to mentor the young David in the pursuit of a career in veterinary medicine. David has since passed by me professionally like a rocket but he remains one of my best friends in the world. I have followed Bob’s journey over the past years and view this as a hollow spot for me in this circle of life. Special times, special family and special guy. May he rest in eternal peace.
