Richard was one of my heroes. From the time I met him, I immediately identified with him. He was the only other person in our NYS Dept. of Health office who rode a bicycle to work. I learned a lot from our conversations over the three years we worked together. His listening and interest in my passions of music and traditional dance created a bond between us. Then I learned of his work on "Medicare for All" My feelings about health care are like his. We are all entitled to the basic right of health care. We are all in a good place for having Richard as part of our lives and community

In his quiet persistence, Richard taught those around him the benefits of the patient and diligent search for truth and for positive change in society. He taught us as well that education has no end and that we should be open to learning from varied sources, including from those whom we seek to teach. Richard, in a sense, was the embodiment of this 2000 year-old maxim in the section of Talmud known as the Pirke Avot: “Let your house be a meeting place for the wise; sit humbly at their feet; and, with thirst, drink in their words.”
The Albany community has lost an extraordinary physician, teacher, humanitarian and activist. When access to universal health care, envisioned by Richard, becomes a reality (and we are edging ever closer), Richard’s dedication to that cause will be acknowledged as a major factor in bringing that about.

Peter, Elizabeth and family. I worked with Richard on the B'nai Sholom Social Action Committee and on CDAUH for several years and thought he was one of the kindest and most thoughtful persons I have ever met. I will miss him greatly and am sorry I cannot be there with you tomorrow to express my gratitude for knowing him to you personally. He will be missed but neither he nor his work will be forgotten.

Richard Propp, was a close and dear friend. I was in the discussion groups at his home. it was a wonderful insight to Jewish history, and philosophy. CDAUH founded by Richard to lobby for Universal Health Course or Medicare for all, should be a necessary function of government. Health care and prescription drugs should not be denied for lack of funds. I will miss my many happy encounters with Richard. By sincere condolences to the entire Propp family.

Richard was a good friend. We studied Maimonides together in their living room, discussed the state of medicine on walks around Buckingham pond and recruited me to committed at the health department. He was a quiet man with a great wit and truly believed in Tikkun Olam.....improving the world. He will be missed. May memories of him bring you comfort.

My heart breaks to loose such a wonderful man. Peter and Elizabeth, your dad was very special to me. Many years being at your home, doing all your Passover and Seder Dinners. The songs, the laughter, the family love. Seeing your mom and him weekly, and the stories they would tell me. We had many talks, about health care, family and yes politics. Best part is Richard always laughed at my jokes. Which to me was kinda funny, as I was not good at it. I remember him taking off for work in the morning on his bike! He always wanted to stay fit. I have so many memories of your family. And I will cherish them all. I was happy to be a part of your family for all these years. Your Dad was so very proud of his children and his grand children. My prayers and love are with you all at this time. Rip my friend.
