Arthur played a decades-long leadership role in on behalf of B’nai B’rith Unit 879 and the B’nai B’rith House, both in Niskayuna. His friendship, cheerful volunteerism, and quiet support have inspired me, for example during his many years of supporting the B’nai B’rith Capital Area Holocaust Essay Contest as a Board member and as the refreshments volunteer for the annual Essay Contest Award Ceremony. As Essay Contest Chairperson, I am also grateful for Arthur’s personal presence at the Award Ceremony in June of each year, as far back as I can remember (except one year when he and Anita were on a cruise!). I am saddened that Arthur will be absent from this year’s Ceremony, though in my mind he will be present. Arthur’s inspiring participation and support over the past three decades have been greatly appreciated, and he will be acutely missed. I extend my condolences and best wishes to Anita and all of his family. I make these remarks as my own small contribution toward remembering Art Merims fully and eternally.
