Obituary of Alfred L. Goldberger

 

 

Alfred L. Goldberger, 86 of Brookdale of  Niskayuna Senior Living  died on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at the Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. Born in the Bronx, Alfred was the son of the late Jesse and Sarah Atlas Goldberger. He was a graduate of Union College and Albany Law School. He was a practicing Attorney in Schenectady for 57 years retiring in 2014. Mr. Goldberger was a member of the Schenectady and the New York State Bar Associations as well as the Beth Israel Synagogue in Schenectady and had been a member and Vice President of the Schenectady Jewish Community Center. He was also a Shriner and a member of the Schenectady Light Opera. Al served as the City of Schenectady Corporation Counsel under Mayors Karen Johnson and Brian Stratton.

 

 

He is survived by his 3 loving sons, Bryan Goldberger and his wife Andrea of Schenectady, NY Neal Goldberger M.D. and his wife Lee Ann Soowal of Charlotte, NC and Marc Goldberger and his wife Lisa of Raleigh, NC.  He is also survived by a brother, Franklin Goldberger and his wife Stephanie of Clifton Park, NY and a sister, Marian Preiss and her husband Stanley of Latham, NY. Grandfather of Danielle, Zachary, Tyler and Tess Goldberger, Matthew Stankus and his wife Jenna, and Vivienne and Alexandra Stankus. Uncle of Steven Goldberger, Amy Ludwig and her husband Miles Ludwig and Jolene Miller.

 

 

Services at Congregation Beth Israel, 2195 Eastern Parkway Schenectady on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at 11:00am. Interment will follow in the Beth Israel Cemetery (lower section) on Schermerhorn Street in Rotterdam. Those wishing to remember Alfred in a special way may make a memorial contribution to Congregation Beth Israel or the Schenectady Jewish Community Center. Following the service of interment on Wednesday, friends and relatives are invited to return to Congregation Beth Israel where the traditional period of mourning will commence.  The family will continue their period of mourning at Congregation Beth Israel on Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 7-9pm.
