Obituary of Elaine Lubert

Elaine Lubert

February 29, 1936 – January 13, 2019

“There is no greater love than the love a mother has for her children”. This quote epitomizes our mother, Elaine Lubert, who passed away on January 13, 2019 at the age of 82. Elaine’s entire life was devoted to her family –her parents, her husband, her children and grandchildren –and she gave of herself freely and selflessly to the very end.

Elaine was born on Leap-Day in 1936 in the Bronx, New York on what was then called the Grand Concourse. She shared a bedroom with her brother in an apartment overflowing with extended family members coming and going for food, drink, card and poker games. Elaine met her future husband, Marvin, when she was 18 and as she said, “he was a stud and she was hooked.” They married in 1954 and moved to Tacoma Park, Maryland. Elaine acclimated to life there, where her first son, Alan, was born but nothing could have prepared her for their move to rural Schenectady, NY just a few years later. She commented that there was not even a mall here when they moved to Schenectady  and she needed to learn to drive to get to the grocery store. Elaine often reminded her husband that he had promised they would live here only for a few years. Long story short, she lived the rest of her life in this area and grew to love it.

Elaine worked as the secretary for Agudat Achim Synagogue for many years and was as dedicated as one would imagine she would be.

Elaine leaves behind a deep legacy in her four children and their spouses, Alan Lubert and Suzanne Gladney, Richard and Ava Lubert, Howard and Caroline Lubert and Mike and Sharon Daley along with six grandchildren: Carly, Leah and Sarah Lubert along with Andrea, Paul and Brian Daley. It should be noted that one of her grandchildren, Brian Daley, shared the same Leap-Day birthday with Elaine.  Elaine passed along a passion for reading, learning and an unending empathy for others. Her care for her husband, and our father, Marvin, during his long term illness, is a standard that few of us could ever meet. A special thanks to Dr. Steven Goldberg and Dr. Howard Scholssberg for their many years of dedicated care and compassion.

Graveside services will be on January 16 at 10:00 am at Agudat Achim Cemetery on Schermerhorn Street in Rotterdam, NY.
