Obituary of Jack Deiber
Jack Deiber, 94, of Schenectady, NY died on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Ellis Hospital after a brief illness. Jack was born February 1,1924 in Schenectady. He was predeceased by his parents, Abraham and Jennie Deiber; two brothers Samuel and Charles Deiber; and his son Robert Deiber. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Gwen Deiber; two daughters Anne Deiber and Debbie Gatoff; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Nino) Calandra, Jason Gatoff, Sarah (John) Schoultz, Jake Deiber, and Courtney Deiber; and four great grandchildren, Samantha and Gabriel Calandra and Jack and Bridget Schoultz.
Jack was an active member of his synagogue, Congregation Beth Israel. He served as President of the Congregation from 1984-1987 and again in 1990 and 1991. Jack served in various other roles within the synagogue including treasurer, president of the Men's Club, Gabbi Sheni, and house chairman. Jack was also a founding member of the bingo committee.
Jack was a veteran of the US Army and was elected Commander of Schenectady Post 106 of the Jewish War Veterans in 1958 and commander of the department executive committee for the State of NY.
Jack worked at the General Electric Research and Development Center for 42 years, retiring in 1984.
Services at Congregation Beth Israel, 2195 Eastern Parkway in Schenectady on Monday, January 7, 2019 at 1pm followed by interment in Beth Israel Cemetery (upper section of cemetery) on Abbotsford Road in Rotterdam, NY. Shiva will be observed for 7 days, at 6:30 pm at the Deiber home, 830 Parkside Avenue Schenectady NY
