Obituary of Grace Fruiterman
Grace Fruiterman died peacefully on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 as a resident of Teresian House. Born April 23, 1919 to the late Sarah and Meyer Moskowitz, Grace was raised in her native Brooklyn. She attended Erasmus Hall High School and then set out to help support her family. An avid equestrian on Ocean Parkway in Brooklyn in her youth, she met her future husband Jerry through mutual friends while on horseback and enjoyed 50 years together. Grace helped raise two sons of whom she was very proud. She was also attached at the hip to her wonderful sister Ruth who died last year at the age of 102.
When Jerry retired in1982 they relocated to the Fort Lauderdale area taking up golf and moving closer to her Florida family.
Grace returned to the northeast to be near her sons and family well after going it alone in Florida following Jerry’s death in 1992. As she approached her 80’s and 90’s she became the entertainer replacing Jerry. She always had a joke to tell to anyone within earshot .
Her best “single” mature years were spent at the Beverwyck community where she enjoyed the company of many of the residents. Mah Jong, long a passion, continued to be a source of enjoyment. It wasn’t unusual for her to call one of her sons to tell them their inheritance was enriched (or depleted) by 65 cents.
Grace was predeceased by her husband, Jerry and her sister Ruth. She is survived by her sons Mark (Stacy) and Roy (Judy), her cherished grandchildren Mara (Mike), David (Cheryl), Seth (Aviva) and Noah. She also leaves 6 great grandchildren whom she loved and adored, as well as her Florida, Massachusetts and Virginia nieces and nephews and their families.
She will be missed by all of us. She lived a life of grace.
Interment will be for the immediate family. Shiva will be observed at the Colonie Country Club on Thursday December 13th from 6-9 PM with a service at 7:30 PM
