Obituary of Dan Radulescu
Dan Radulescu, passed on during the day of December 3rd around 2:00 PM, at Albany’s, St Peter’s Hospice at the age of 64. After a long battle with an unforgiving illness.
Dan was born in Romania on 25 October 1954, during the dark Communist era of that country. Dan had a great love for the American way of life based on the movies he used to watch as a kid with his mother. He accomplished his dream in 1990, by becoming a New Yorker, when he emigrated to the United States.
Dan was determined to succeed in his new life and worked tirelessly to make his American Dream come true, from humble beginnings as a street vendor, selling Hot Dogs at Washington Square to driving a Yellow Cab in NYC, to becoming a database engineer for the State of New York. He succeeded in overcoming all hardships and making his dream come true.
Dan has always been a living/walking Encyclopedia. He was an avid reader and was always interested in knowing any detail of any subject.
The great loves of his life were Music, Photography, Traveling, History and Art. He knew all there was to know about these topics.
Dan was an avid traveler and in his own words “Man did I Travel”. He also loved music and that was always part of his life since his youth. Not being able to see and listen to Rock & Roll legends like Iron Maiden and Rolling Stones were one of the driving forces for his departure from his beloved home country of Romania.
He collected thousands of music albums and has taken millions of photographs. Most people that knew Dan, remember him as the guy with the big photo camera that always took great photos of everything or the guy who always has a few thousand songs ready to go on his phone.
Dan was married twice and has one son, Cristian. He was also the proud Grandfather to Mark and Rachel.
He was a loving father which did everything in his power to ensure the wellbeing of his family. Even separated by thousands of miles, his heart and mind were always focused on them and he always tried to be an active part of their lives.
Dan met his girlfriend Carol while ushering at the Egg and over the last 5 years they had a wonderful relationship. They traveled the world and had many wonderful adventures together.
Carol and her loving family and friends received him in and were at his side supporting him during the challenging last 2 years. Nothing can repay their generosity and kindness.
Dan was preceded in death by his sister Marina, who died two years ago to the day, his parents Mircea Carol and Aristita and is survived by his son Cristian, daughter in law Elena and his grandchildren Mark and Rachel from Montreal Quebec.
A memorial service for Dan will be held at the Levine Memorial Chapel 649 Washington Avenue in Albany on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 10am with Rev. Glenn Van Oort officiating.. Dan will be laid to rest at Albany Rural Cemetery under a big oak tree.
Dan’s loved ones would like to extend their sincere thank you to the staff of St Peter’s Hospice for the loving care and Dr. Qin Zen for his close involvement throughout the last 2 years. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
