Obituary of Marlene Mendelson
Marlene Mendelson, 80, of Schenectady, NY passed away unexpectedly November 15.
Marlene is survived by her loving spouse of 58 years, Richard, her brother Jay (Fern) Levine, of Thousand Oaks, CA, her children Elliot (Cara) of Chicago, IL, Suzanne (Robert) of Binghamton, NY, Mitchell (Kathleen) of Schenectady, grandchildren Samuel, Hannah, and Matthew, along with several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Marlene was predeceased by her parents, Samuel and Johanna Levine
Marlene was born and raised in Bronx, NY. She was a Magna cum Laude graduate of Hunter College and a member of Phi Beta Kappa, attending Syracuse University on a full scholarship where she received her MA in Teaching. Marlene was a lifelong teacher, both as a reading and ESL teacher in Schenectady City Schools, as a volunteer docent at the Schenectady Museum, and for her children and grandchildren, encouraging reading and learning as they grew up. Marlene was life member of Hadassah, and a member of Agudat Achim Synagogue in Schenectady.
Services at Congregation Agudat Achim, 2117 Union Street Schenectady, NY on Sunday November 18, 2018 at 10:30 AM Interment will follow services in the Agudat Achim Cemetery in Rotterdam, In lieu of flowers, donations in Marlene's memory can be made to the Agudat Achim Education Fund or the Scleroderma Foundation. The period of mourning will be observed at the Mendleson residence on Sunday through Wednesday commencing at 7pm.
Marlene will be deeply missed by her family and circle of friends.
