Obituary of Sarah K. Silverman
Sarah (Koblenz) Silverman, 89, of Columbus Ohio and former long time resident of Albany, died on September 5th 2013 in the presence of her son Howard Silverman. Sarah was born on March 11, 1924 and spent almost her entire life in Albany. She was a 1942 graduate of Philip Schuyler High School. In 1946 she married Bernie Silverman and spent the next 63 years as his life long partner. She worked with Bernie and brother-in-law, William Marin at the Paragon Paint Corp for many years. She was also a marvelous homemaker who enjoyed all kinds of cooking and baking as well as music and singing. She was a wonderful mother to her only child, Howard, providing a home environment that was encouraging and nurturing. Sarah was a member of a variety of social and religious organizations including the Pythian Sisters and Hadassah. She was a member of the Sons of Abraham Synagogue and then for many years a member of Tempe Israel in Albany. Sarah is survived by her son Howard, daughter-in-law Janet, grandchildren Mark Silverman, Heather (Aaron) Kasdan and Jason Silverman and great granddaughter Hailey Vinsel. She is also survived by her sister-in-law and brother in law Muriel and William Marin as well as many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Hilda and Herschel Koblenz, husband Bernie, and brothers Sidney (Gwen) Koblenz, Milton Koblenz and Benny Koblenz.
Services at the Levine Memorial Chapel. 649 Washington Avenue Albany on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at 11:00am. Interment will follow in the Independent Benevolent Cemetery in Guilderland, NY.
