OBITUARY OF BARBARA M. SAX

ALBANY, NEW YORK

 

Barbara M. Sax, 90, of Albany, passed away on October 3, 2018 with her daughter Ellen by her side.  She was born in Schenectady to Fredrick E. Marcus and Helen Sovetts Marcus.  Barbara graduated from Albany High School, went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Russell Sage College and eventually a master’s degree in education from what was then Albany State College.  She was an avid golfer and an active member of Shaker Ridge Country Club for more than sixty years.  Barbara taught high school biology for many years at Schenectady High School.  She was the human resources manager for Denby's and then served as the first human resources manager for Urbach Kahn & Werlin.

 

Barbara enjoyed spending time with her family, travel and playing bridge with her friends.  She also loved the opera, art museums, the symphony and the ballet.

 

Barbara was married to Morris ( Mushie) Sax until his passing.

 

Barbara is survived by her daughter and best friend, Ellen Sax, her son-in-law Patrick Greene, her son Robert (Nina) Sax, four grandchildren, Adam and Daniel Sax and Matthew and Kyle Greene, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

She will be remembered for her intelligence, passion for the arts, support of charitable causes, loyalty to her friends, and her generosity and compassion.

 

Services will be at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue, Albany, New York on Friday, October 5, 2018 at 1:00 pm.  Interment will follow in the Temple Israel Cemetery in Guilderland, New York.

 

The family wishes to express its deepest gratitude to those who provided compassionate care and comfort in the final years of her life especially Rita, Evie, Lynn, Veronica, Margot and Sonia and the dedicated team at Home Instead.

 

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Barbara in a special way may make a contribution to the Regional Food Bank of North Eastern New York, 965 Albany-Shaker Road, Latham, New York 12110 or Temple Israel 600 New Scotland Ave Albany NY 12208, or to a charity of their choice. The period of mourning will be observed at Barbara's home in Albany on Friday following the services and on Saturday and Sunday from 6:30 to 8:30pm.
