Obituary of Muriel Kriss

Muriel (Ettinger) Kriss

Muriel Phoebe (Ettinger) Kriss, 98, of Albany, New York, passed away on October 1, 2018 in the company of her loving family.

Muriel was born in New York City in 1920, to Jerome and Belle Ettinger and grew up in Manhattan and the Bronx. As a child, her cheerfulness earned her the nickname “Sunny". She was a graduate of Walton High School in the Bronx. In 1941, she married Harry Kriss, who owned a furniture business. They resided in the Bronx for the next 55 years and raised four sons there. Muriel’s cheerful disposition carried through her life, and she lived surrounded by good friends in her apartment building and neighborhood with whom she loved playing mahjong. She enjoyed traveling to Israel with Harry and to Florida, Hawaii, and California with her children and grandchildren, trips that continued late into her life. Most of all, Muriel loved spending time with family, many of whom lived in the Albany area. On visits upstate, she always arrived with homemade brisket and noodle kugel. Muriel moved to Albany after Harry's death in 1996. Later in life, she enjoyed living close to her children and grandchildren, and she was always ready to take the family out for meals, talk about the news, or tell anyone who would listen about the many accomplishments of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Muriel will be greatly missed by her brother Joel Ettinger, sons Jerry, Robert, Charles (Marilyn) and Mark (Robyn Signorelli) and daughter-in-law Deborah Kriss.  She was a devoted Grandma  (Danielle Kriss, Rachel Kriss, Bethany Kriss, Jacob Kriss, Ravi Kriss, SuGui Kriss, Shanthi Kriss, Miriam Johnson, Laura Leadholm, Naomi Kriss, Kevin Leadholm, Kara Meyers, Maggie Kriss),   Great-Grandma (Annika Akey, Kohana Kriss, Naveah Paquette, Eli and Simon Morrison and Finn and Sawyer Johnson), and Aunt (Terry Panarese and Linda Frost and their families).

Memorial services will be held on October 3 at 9:00am at Levine Memorial Chapel (649 Washington Avenue, Albany, New York) followed by internment at Old Montefiore Cemetery, Queens, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mohawk Hudson Humane Society or a charity of ones choice.
