Obituary of Maria Joann Evenson

Maria Joann Evensen, 97, of Scotia, New York, passed away surrounded by family Friday, September 21, 2018, after experiencing a stroke that left her in Hospice care.   

Maria was born June 25, 1921 in the Bronx, New York, to Rocco and Elaine Lozito.  After graduating high school in the Bronx, Maria spent many years working for the American Cancer Society.  She met her husband Helbert Evensen in 1950 at a wedding for a mutual friend.  They were married in 1953 and moved to Harrison, New York.  In 1957 the couple conceived their only child, Glenn. Once Glenn was born, Maria became a stay at home mother.  They eventually made their way to Albany, New York where they spent the rest of their lives.  Her family was her everything.   

Maria had many interests but most of them involved food.  She was an exceptional cook, and enjoyed having friends and family join her for dinner.  She loved going for long car rides and travelling with her family.  Maria visited most of the United States in her lifetime.  She had an immense heart and loved to give not only to her family but to everyone around her.   

Maria is survived by her son Glenn Evensen, her daughter-in-law Denise Evensen, her grandson Brett Evensen, her granddaughter Nikki Evensen, her sister Vivian Mangini, her niece and her husband Jill and Nick Principe, her great nieces Melanie Principe and Allie Dombrow, her great nephew Chris Principe, her great niece Marie Fillazolla, cousins and many friends she made along the way.  She was preceded in death by her husband Helbert Evensen and her brother-in-law Thomas Mangini.   

Maria was a beautiful person that was full of charisma and wit until the very end of her life.  Everyone who knew her loved her character and she could make anyone laugh without even trying.  She will be sorely missed.   

Memorial services will be  held on September 25, 2018 at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
