Obituary of Shirley Sobell

Shirley Doris Sobell, 96, of Albany, NY, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2018 at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center. Although accepted to art school, Shirley followed her parents’ practical advice and graduated from Cornell in 1943 with a degree in chemistry. She enjoyed a long successful career at Sterling Winthrop Research Institute engaged in product development and pharmaceutical analysis. Author of eight scientific research publications, she was listed in the 11th edition of American Men and Women in Science. An avid world traveler, photographer, golfer, accomplished watercolor artist, and follower of the Saratoga horse races, Shirley lived her life to the fullest. She was an active member in Hadassah and Temple B’nai Sholom. She was predeceased by parents Pauline and Louis Sobell and dear brother Richard S. Sobell. She is survived by three nieces and their families.

 Services at the Beth Tephilah Cemetery Belle Avenue Troy on Monday, August 20, 2018 at 4:00pm.  Donations may be made to Temple B’nai Sholom or the Capital District Chapter of Hadassah.
