Obituary of Sara K. Barr
Sara Kessler Barr passed away in Williamsville, NY, on June 21. She was 101. Born in Cementon and having lived almost her entire life in Albany, she moved to Buffalo in 2017 to be closer to family. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Martin J Barr.
Sara was active in the Albany business community as owner of the Quality Corset Shoppe. She was a lifelong member of Temple Beth Emeth. As a member of the Sisterhood there as well as Hadassah, she participated for many years in collegial acts of kindness. She loved hearing about people’s experiences and was an engaging conversationalist. A lifelong learner, she was a member of several book clubs spanning decades and a wily bridge player.
But, above all, she was devoted in word and deed to her family.
Survivors include two children, Susan Black of Clarence, and William Barr (Marcia) of Brasilia, Brazil; six grandchildren, Molly Kimble (Robert) of Clarence Center and Samantha Black of Chicago, Simon Barr (Cindy Travers) and Magdalena Barr (Jesse Shapiro) of Washington, D.C., Tiago Palma of Brasilia, and Gabriel Palma (Renata) of São Paulo; a great-grandson, Jackson, of Clarence Center and a great-granddaughter, Perola, of São Paulo.
Interment will be private. Services will be held at Congregation Beth Emeth, 100 Academy Rd. Albany on Friday, June 29, 2018 at 1:00 PM.
