Rabbi Bert and Bailey Bloom posted a condolence

Dear Arleen,
We were so sad to learn of Marty's death last week. Unfortunately, we couldn't be with you and the family for the funeral or shiva, but we want you to know we're thinking of you at this difficult time.
We didn't really know Marty - we only saw him in crowded situations, and he tended to stay in the background then. But we were happy that the two of you found each other, and made a good life together, albeit a too short one.
May you find comfort in the good memories you have of your time together.
Fondly,
Bert and Bailey

A good friend from the trade called me earlier today to share the sad news of Martin Stein's passing. Those of us in the specialty food industry knew Marty as the consummate professional who cared deeply about his customers (and suppliers). At virtually ever Fancy Food Show I exhibited at over the past 35+ years, I could always count on Marty to stop by, ask me if there was anything "new"and made sure he was always up to date with all the point of sale material. Marty might have been the best dressed salesman in the industry, always wearing a suit, jacket and tie, long after most went business casual. I always admired Marty and felt grateful for his continued support and dedication to his craft. Marty was a true mensch in every sense of the word; he will be sorely missed by all who knew him. My condolences to his lovely wife, Arleen, who walked many shows faithfully at his side!

I was honored to work with Marty when we were both at the Niskayuna Coop. An old time food rep who knew his vast product line and was not afraid to make a cold call. Extremely knowledgeable on Kosher products & Passover traditions. If Marty couldn't find a food item you didn't need it. A great mentor who was happy to share his vast experience. A real mensch who was a book lover and community leader. They don't make them like Marty anymore. May his memory be a blessing.

Marty was always a pleasure to see and talk to every time I would encounter him. He always made a point to stop at our booth at every show to discuss business. He genuinely cared about the brands and products he represented. One of the true gentlemen of the industry who quietly went about doing his job with passion and professionalism. Just last week, a colleague and I were discussing Marty and how it seemed he looked younger with every meeting. Marty truly will be missed.

My heart ached this morning when I received the news. Although we only talked at Food Shows, I considered Marty one of kind, GENTLEMAN and a friend. I know he had many friends, but he always made me feel special when we had a conversation.
A true "GOOD GUY" - a wonderful person, gentle, calm, intelligent - they truly don't make them like Marty anymore. Classic and unique, my thoughts and prayers go out to all those who loved him.

To the Stein Family,
Please accept my condolences on Marty's passing. You don't know me, nor would Marty necessarily know me by name. But at every food show where we exhibited, Marty made it a point to stop by our booth to say hello, and to tell us that he supported our brand. Marty was a true salesman, and he reminded me a lot of my departed father in his style. More importantly, I saw a lot of myself in Marty, and have always remarked that I will be him in 20 years. Marty never had a negative word about anyone in the business, and I always looked forward to seeing him at the shows, with his positive outlook. He will be missed, and you should know, he truly made a difference. He may not be famous, but he had a heck of a career, and you should be very proud of his stature in the industry. We will miss him.
