Obituary of Claire Roth

 

Claire Wynifred Jarett Roth born on 2/22/23 died late Monday, May 14th at Teresian House Nursing Home in Albany, New York. At age 95, Claire passed away peacefully in her sleep.

Claire was known for many things but her quiet, beautiful smile and knowing eyes were attributes that reflected the intelligent, creative and loving soul within. Claire was raised in Brooklyn, NY and was the daughter of Jack Jarett and Selma Jarett (nee Falb) along with her brother, Captain Lawrence Jarett. (Dec eased) She received her BA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and went on to earn two Master’s degrees - one in Library Science from Columbia University and the other in Guidance from New York University. Claire co-authored two books in a career series and served as the Library Director of the Mercantile Library in New York City. She was the library director for the English Speaking Union in NYC and was the director of the Finch College Library. In her spare time, she opened the Charlemont House Gallery Antique Shop in Charlemont, Mass. and sold antique oriental rugs.

Claire was an inspiration to those who knew her and a cherished mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her two daughters, Lyzz RothSinger and Amy Koren-Roth and her three grandchildren Hadar and Adam Koren-Roth and Hallie RothSinger. She is also survived by her son-in law Yossi Koren-Roth, her niece Dr. Laura Jarett and her two grand nephews Ethan Giller ( Holly Stewart) and Geoffrey Giller (Mwanzaa Brown).

Services will be held at B’nai Sholom Reform Congregation, 420 Whitehall Road, Albany, NY at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 16th. Graveside services will be at Beth David Cemetery, Elmont, NY. The family will sit Shiva on Thursday, May 17th at the home of Amy and Yossi Koren-Roth 24 Oak Rd, Delmar, NY. 12054. 6:30-9:00 pm. There will be a minyan at 7:30 pm.
