Obituary of Shirley Jacobson

 

 

Shirley R. (Bronstein) Jacobson, 91 of Albany, NY (recently living in Pittsford, New York during her last year of life) died on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. Born in Albany on December 10 1927, Shirley was the daughter of the late Bella and Samuel Bronstein. Shirley nourished people around her with love, laughter, and care. She was full of life, as she called herself a “mover and a shaker”, always ready to get on the dance floor, and groove to the music.

 

Mrs. Jacobson was employed by the New York State Teacher’s Retirement System until she retired in 2004.  Shirley was a lifelong member of Temple Israel and served as an active member of Sisterhood. Shirley was also an active lifelong member of the Albany Jewish Community Center (JCC) and enjoyed many fun years of exercise classes and activities with her close friends of the JCC.  Shirley went to Mildred Elley Business School and graduated with a secreterial degree.

 

Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Harris Jacobson in 2004 and her brother, Herman Bronstein in 1976.

 

Shirley’s legacy is her cherished family including her children, Phyllis Jacobson –Kram ( David) , Larry Jacobson ( Amy) and Steven Jacobson ( Mel) . Grandmother of Lori Field ( Seth), Rachel Viquez ( Roger), Ashley Hoffman, (Adam), Stacy Donnelly and Paula Jacobson. Great grandmother of Avery Field, Jonah Field, Hunter Hoffman, Lily Donnelly and Tali Viquez.

 

Ms. Jacobson will be remembered as a shining light in the communities she served and many lives she touched.

Services will be held at the Temple Israel Cemetery, 1626 Western Avenue, Guilderland NY on Monday, May 14, 2018 at 11:00am. Those wishing to remember Shirley may make a memorial contribution to Visiting Nurse Hospice, 2180 Empire Blvd, Webster NY 14580. Friends and relatives are invited to a lunch reception to celebrate Shirley’s life at Congregation Gates of Heaven, 852 Ashmore Avenue in Schenectady on Monday following the funeral service. The family will remain at the Temple to receive friends and relatives until 4pm on Monday after which the period of mourning will resume at the Temple Gates of Heaven from 7-9pm.
