Shortly after their marriage they started the Fabric Center, located on Jay Street. She was involved in this downtown Schenectady store, which moved across the street at one point, for over 40 years. After Robert’s death in 1974, Rita ran the store successfully and eventually sold the property, which was at one time a Spaulding baseball factory. During the Fabric Center years, they raised two children, Susan and Mark.

A number of years later Rita married Manny Green, a Schenectady ophthalmologist. Rita became his ophthalmic assistant and conducted work there for many years. After she had taken care of Manny for 3 years, after he suffered a stroke, she visited him every day in the Glendale home and brought him a hot fudge Sunday.

Rita loved art and spent many years with her art group. She loved the people and drew a lot of pictures after Manny passed away. Rita and Manny had travelled to Paris and went to the Louvre and the Musee d’Orsay. She attended many medical conferences with him and loved getting to new cities. Rita put energy into everything and loved her house. She would kibbutz with anyone who would listen and some who didn’t.  She had a great sense of humor, always interacting and with a definite opinion on most things.
