Obituary of Cecil Markowitz Goldstein

Cecil Markowitz Goldstein, beloved mother, grandmother and teacher, passed away at age 86 on Thursday, May 3, 2018, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Cecil was a resident of Delray Beach, Florida. Before moving to Florida, she was a lifelong resident of Albany. Cecil was the daughter of Libby and Ben Waldman of Cohoes, New York. She graduated from Cohoes High School and Russell Sage College, and received her masters’ degree in education from Oneonta State University. Cecil taught math and science to fifth and sixth graders at PS 19 until her retirement in 1989. Cecil was a proud, four generation member of Hadassah. She was a strong advocate for Israel and was active in the Jewish community.

Cecil was predeceased by her husband of 28 years, Milton Markowitz, the love of her life, who died in 1977. She married Martin Goldstein in 1980, until his death in 2015. She is survived by her loving daughter, Jan Markowitz Estrine and her son-in-law, Andrew Estrine, of Boca Raton Florida, and her grandchildren, David, Ben and Leda Estrine, who were the lights of her life. She is also survived by her brother, Melvin Waldman (Jane), of Loudonville, and her sister, Susan Defuria of Sedona, Arizona, and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Temple Israel Cemetery, Western Avenue, on Monday, May 7, 2018 at 1:00 pm.
