Obituary of Harry Goldberg
Harry Goldberg, age 97 of the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center in Albany died on Saturday morning, August 17, 2013 at the nursing center. Born in Cohoes, NY, Harry resided most of his life in Albany. He also lived in Watervliet for several years. He was the son of the late Louis and Sarah Goldberg, He was a graduate of Albany High School, class of 1935. Harry was a Navy veteran and served in World War II from 1941-1945. He had been employed as a food salesman for the Service Food Co. for many years later working as a custodial supervisor for the Albany School District from which he retired. Harry was a member and past commander of the Ambrose J. Scully American Legion Post in Albany.
Harry is survived by his children, Gary Goldberg of Schenectady, Jeffrey Goldberg of Slingerlands, NY, Laura Kurowski of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Marta Plass (Albert) of Glenmont, NY, Alan Goldberg of Schenectady and Daniiel Goldberg of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Grandfather of Noel, Arien, Josh, Jenissa, Julia and Daphne. He also leaves 6 great grandchildren. Harry was predeceased by his siblings, Morris Goldberg, Bertha Jackson, and Sally Shaw and most recently by his grandson, Adam Plass. He was also predeceased by his former wife, Lois Blanchard Goldberg as well as his loving companion, Ruth Zientek.
Services at the Levine Memorial Chapel 649 Washington Avenue Albany, on Monday, August 19, 2013 at 1pm Interment will followi in the Temple Israel Cemetery in Guilderland, NY. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Harry in a special way may make a memorial contribution to the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center, 180 Washington Avenue Extension , Albany, NY 12203. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff on the gold unit at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center for the care, respect and kindness shown to Harry and our family during his stay.
