Obituary of Shirley Glaser
Shirley Reichman Glaser, formerly of Boynton Beach, Florida, died peacefully at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center on July 15, 2013 at age 85.
Shirley earned her Bachelor's degree from Brooklyn College and her Masters from Hunter College. Shirley was proud to be a teacher, teaching home economics, health and other courses at Lindenhurst High School in Long Island. An active member of the Teachers Association of Lindenhurst, she was a fierce proponent of public education. After retiring from teaching, Shirley helped found the Palm Isles chapter of the Papanicolaou Corps for Cancer Research in Boynton Beach, Florida, and served as President of the chapter.
Of all of her achievements, Shirley was most proud of her family. She was married to Larry Glaser for 64 years until his passing in November, 2012. Shirley is survived by her son, Mark Glaser (Karen) of Slingerlands, and grandchildren, Dan (Kerri), Tovah (Dennis), Zach (Sarah) and Tami (Jamie). She was also so pleased when Karen's children, Josh, Craig and Brad, became part of the family. She was predeceased by son, Howard, and sisters Fay and Esta.
The family wishes to thank Daughters of Sarah, especially the Red Wing staff, for their compassionate care while Shirley was a resident. Memorial contributions may be made to the Daughters of Sarah Foundation or to the Palm Isles Chapter of the Papanicolaou Corps for Cancer Research.
Shirley was interred at Wellwood Cemetery in Pinelawn, NY. The family will receive guests at the home of Mark and Karen Glaser from 6:30pm to 9pm on Sunday, July 21st, with a brief service at 7pm.
