I have the best memories of Math Time with Bernie at Parker and feel so lucky to have had someone like him kindle my curiosity. What a great legacy--I'm sure all of us at Parker who knew Bernie are inspired to pass on the same love and passion for learning he taught us.

I am 20 years younger than Bernie, and he has always been an inspiration to me since I came to Rensselaer Polytechnic to work in 1980. He was a familiar and friendly face there, but it was his activism that inspired me. I saw him most recently at an annual Martin Luther King Day community event in Albany this year. I was in the audience for a speaker on environmental justice, and I saw Bernie take a seat some rows away from me. To my surprise, he appeared a few minutes later in the seat next to me, where he moved after he noticed me. I got one of his nice smiles, but I never really spoke to him that day because I had to leave the program early to sit at a literature table. I remember thinking, Bernie still doesn't miss a chance to learn and lend his support. I was lucky to know him, and I wish his family well.

My condolences to the Fleishman Family. Mr. Fleishman was an outstanding person with whom I had marvelous conversations. At family gatherings, I always looked forward to conversing with him. I will miss his presence. Sincerely, Luis Martinez.
