Obituary of Harold Hoffman

Dr. Harold Hoffman, age 81 of Albany, NY died on Sunday morning, November 20, 2011 surrounded by his loving family at the St. Peter's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Dr. Hoffman was born in Albany and grew up in East Schodack, NY. He was a graduate of Columbia High School as well as a graduate of Columbia University in NYC where he received his Doctor of Optometry. He established the Greenbush Eye Center, 4 Springhurst Drive, Suite 108 in East Greenbush, NY where he practiced and was devoted to his patients for 55 years. Dr. Hoffman was the former partner of George Shannon and Pinecrest Holding Company, LLC, SHS Holding Company, East Greenbush, NY. He was a member and Past President of Congregation Ohav Sholom and Past president of Kiwanis Club in East Greenbush, NY. a member of B'nai B'rith Albany Chapter. Dr. Hoffman was the recipient of the Lion of Judah Award, presented by the Albany Jewish Federation. His hobbies included his grandchildren, golf, sports, cards, lawn care, gardening, reading, theatre, music, traveling, and CNN News. He was the devoted husband to Audrey Sebelowitz Hoffman Loving Father to son, Brian Hoffman and his wife, Jill and daughter Lisa Hoffman Shepard and her husband, Stephen Shepard Beloved grandfather of Stella and Marni Shephard, and Tyler and Delia Hoffman. He was the son of the late Philip and Bessie Belmont Hoffman He is survived by his sister, Beatrice Schaffer of Providence, RI and was predeceased by a brother, Alfred Hoffman and a sister, Martha Lazaroff.. Brother-in -law of Carol and Norman Rosenthal. Uncle of and Randy and Rochelle Rosenthal, Marcy and Mitchell Leiman, Beverly Conrad, Rayna Lazaroff, Allen Lazaroff, Jill Schaffer, and Barbara Schaffer. Great uncle of Rachel and Michael Conrad and Hannah and Seth Leiman. Services at Congregation Ohav Sholom, 113 New Krumkill Road in Albany on Monday, November 21, 2011 at 1:30pm. Interment will follow in the Ohav Sholom Cemetery on Church Road in Guilderland, NY. Those wishing to remember Harold in a special way may make a memorial contribution to either Congregation Ohav Shalom or St. Peter's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 301 Hackett Blvd. Albany, NY 12208. The period of mourning will be observed at the Hoffman residence, 12 Prospect Terrace in Albany, NY on Monday and Tuesday evenings commencing at 6:00pm Thanks to St. Peter's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and to head nurses, Helene and Barbara and all the devoted aids that cared for Harold with love. We are grateful to our dear family and our friends for their love and support.
