Obituary of Hilde Luft
Hilde Dreyfuss Luft died peacefully March 31, 2013 at the Glendale Home. She was 99 years old, born March 14,1914 in Frankfurt AM, Germany. She was the epitome of understated elegance.
She came to America in 1937 fleeing Nazi oppression and settled in New York City where she met Herbert Luft on New Year's Eve, 1948. After a romantic 5 month courtship they married May 17, 1949. They lived in NYC until moving to Glenville 1988.
After her husband died that same year she found new pleasure and satisfaction with her friends old and new, and especially spending time with her grandsons.
She is survived by daughter Mishka Luft, son-in-law Robert Weissberg, grandsons Noah and Michael Luft-Weissberg and other family in Israel and Brazil.
She enjoyed music, museums, travel, and visiting botanical gardens and zoos.
She became the "Community Oma" to the families that developed deep friendships formed around the cohorts of her grandsons, beginning when they were 2 and 3 years old a programs at Congregation Agudat Achim and the Schenectady JCC. She was an active member in both organizations and loved the summers spent at the outdoor JCC pool with her new extended families.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at the Glendale Home for the years of caring and love she received there.
Services at Congregation Agudat Achim 2117 Union Street in Schenectady on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at 1:00pm (Please note change in location of funeral service) Interment will follow in the Agudat Achim Cemetery on Schermerhorn Street in Rotterdam, NY. Shiva Minyanim will take place at the home of Mishka Luft, 1332 Wemple Lane, Niskayuna, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday evenings at 7PM.
