Obituary of Sharon Linda Fishman

Sharon Fishman, 63, of Colonie, NY passed away at home on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 surrounded by her three children. Born on October 1, 1949 in Utica, NY, Sharon was the daughter of the late Moses and Rose Philipson and wife of the late David Fishman. She was the beloved mother of Hirsch, Rebecca, and Joshua, and grandmother of David. Sharon graduated from Utica Free Academy in 1967 and the State University of New York at Albany in 1971. She was a social worker for the New York State Welfare Department and then Child Protective Services for seven years until she became a mother. Sharon had been a dedicated volunteer at St Peter's Hospital for the past eleven years, both in the gift shop and at the information desk. She was a beautiful, independent, smart, and spunky woman who will be sorely missed. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 28 at 1:00 pm at Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue, in Albany, NY. Burial will be at the Independent Benevolent Cemetery on Fuller Road in Guilderland, NY following the service. Relatives and friends are invited to spend time with the family at the Fishman residence in Colonie on Thursday evening from 7 - 9 p.m. and Friday afternoon from 2 - 4 p.m. The family will begin sitting shiva in Raleigh, NC after the conclusion of Passover on Tuesday evening. Those who wish to make memorial contributions in Sharon's name may make them to St Peter's Hospital Foundation (319 S. Manning Boulevard, Suite 114, Albany, NY 12208); donations will be earmarked for a naming opportunity or program in her memory.
